1. Chapter 8
2 Connections
1) All of this is even more familiar to me as a film and digital media major. This is the part that I find fun.
2) Editing is my absolute favorite thing to do and that is actually what I want to do when I get out of college so I am interested to see it from a journalistic viewpoint rather than a moviemaking viewpoint.
2 Questions
1) When the book says “Recording Audio” do they mean recording audio and video separately or only sound?
2) In what case is it appropriate to implement either audio or video alone?
2. VNR Stuff
3 Similarities
1) They were each less than three minutes long.
2) They displayed a balance between showing what was happening on location and what was going on behind the scenes.
3) They gave the who, what, when, where and why plus some extra details on the event/thing.
A VNR is made if it is short, sweet and to the point and provides a brief explanation of the event, similar to the headline at the very beginning of the news on your local cable channel. The interview sound bites are between 10 and 30 seconds long. They also include video footage of the event and where it is taking place. You should format your VNR to go back and forth between your voice over and the interviewees but should never show yourself as a news reporter. They should be between one and three minutes long.
